POSTCARDS TO CHICAGO
Postcards to Chicago at Navy Pier with the Design Museum of Chicago
The Design Museum of Chicago collaborated with Navy Pier to create a massive mural along the north wall of Navy Pier, conceptualized as and named Postcards to Chicago. Creation of the mural involved three schools; the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Harry S Truman College, and UIC Art & Art History, in an inclusive way to honor our city's history of public art at one of our most iconic sites.
Storytelling and Production
Murmur Ring is proud to partner with the Design Museum of Chicago–a platform to elevate our city's creatives in experiential formats.
Having collaborated on previous programs with the Museum, we know their work intimately and easily assumed the role of strategist in helping the Museum tell its story. Despite the constraints of the fundraiser being entirely virtual, the collaboration helped the Museum secure over $30,000 to surpass its fundraising goals.
This series of films provided engaging content and helped raise awareness beyond the event placing their story in print and digital for NewCity.
This was a lean production, with a three-person crew consisting of Producer, Director/Photographer, and audio engineer. We filmed in three locations over two days with one week of editing.
“Photography holds Power,” says Alayna Pernell reflecting on her artistic contribution to the massive collaborative mural project at Navy Pier, Postcards to Chicago.

"I think inherently a museum is neutral ground. These sanctuaries are getting harder and harder to find so it's really important to me to build one."

Seeing Differently with Helyn Goldenberg
Curator and collector, at her role at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago Helyn Goldenberg was the first woman president of a museum in the United States. In this intimate vignette by Murmur Ring, we were welcomed into Helyn's home to hear her perspective and view her stunning collection.
"Chicago itself is a design museum. It's kind of in the DNA of Chicago."
